I have so much anxiety this week.
Yesterday was the last day for me at the Frick, which you’d think would be good, but instead I got in a tiff with my boyfriend about dinner/drinks and stormily took a cab home the the Lower East Side.
Today I have to write a paper, study for a final (both are due tomorrow), go to my internship and be cheerful, then take a weird conference call with my...

Oh, you know, the usual Friday night by myself: watching trashy t.v., drinking wine for dinner, wearing a huge Egyptian nightgown my Granny brought back in the 70s, and slathering myself with argan oil.

I’m feeling angry, guilty, depressed, and frustrated today, and there aren’t enough PJ Harvey albums on my iPod.

I never cared for the Dutch Golden Age in the first place, but now I’m practically repulsed by it.
Nothing can move me to finish this paper today. I won’t do it. Not for love or money.

“I can always tell you’re drunk when you start talking about the patriarchy.”
-Arielle as we were walking to Whole Foods tonight to buy overpriced sunscreen, canning jars, and talk about apartment hunting totally blows.
For context: It started our talking about Kristen Schaal and the absurdity of high heels.

As women grow older, daughter becomes the... →
“While men tend to maintain a woman as their closest confidant throughout their adult lives, women’s focus shifts from their spouse to their adult daughter as they age, according to an analysis of nearly 2 billion cellphone calls and almost half a billion text messages.”
I have found this to be true with my parents, which has led to many awkward conversations with my Mother...

What Is That 'Old Books Smell'? Chemistry Has... →
Based on research by scientists at University College, London, a video from AbeBooks explains the causes of the characteristic odor of old books. According to the video, the lead scientist on the study described it as a “combination of grassy notes with a tang of acids and a hint of vanilla over an underlying mustiness.”

Marie Osmond recites Hugo Ball!
I remember in undergrad my art history teacher playing this and then gleefully asking the class if we knew who the narrator was (it was audio only). Who would ever guess in a million years?

I just handed in my two weeks notice.
It feels good, liberating, but mostly kind of scary. I’ve been at my same job for longer than any other job I’ve ever had (which isn’t saying a ton, but still) and I’m going to miss most of my co-workers a lot. They’re really some of the nicest, weirdest, smartest people I know.
The thing that keeps me from getting too maudlin about the whole thing is the reminder...

Things I've done today besides my paper.
1. Get passport photos taken (for the second time).

Garbage: A Costly American Addiction. →
“Equating green with economic ruin is a familiar refrain, of course, but this claim about waste is worth a hard look. Trash really is the biggest thing Americans make, and it tends to get bigger in good times while shrinking during recession. Does that mean, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, that garbage is good? Should the old saw about waste not, want not really be waste more, get more?...
